It seems like every time a new, high powered NBA player comes along, people ask the same question. “Can this guy be the next Michael Jordan?” Everyone wants to see another MJ, and ever since he retired, we’ve heard the mantra over and over again.

In the 1990s, it was Harold Miner after he won his first dunk contest. People were even calling him “Baby Jordan”. Then, later that decade, it was Kobe Bryant. Bryant’s game resembled Jordan’s in many ways, and their height and physical builds were both very similar. In some respects, it seemed that Kobe had emulated Jordan’s game, leading many to believe that Kobe was the “next Michael Jordan”.

More recently, it’s been LeBron James, and even Kevin Durant to a degree. Everyone wants to see another Jordan, but no one to date has matched his accomplishments, leading many to wonder if there ever will be another Michael Jordan again.

The truth of the matter is that Michael Jordan was an extremely special breed of player. He may be that once in a lifetime sensation that we hear baseball fans speak of when they mention the impact of Babe Ruth.

Why is michael jordan so important to pop culture?

To be honest, I could care less about Michael Jordan RIGHT NOW. I appreciate what he did for the game of basketball and was a fan when he was playing. However I think at this point the league is more talented than it has ever been and we should appreciate the hard work that our current stars put in night in and night out and stop dwelling on the past.
